LEK CHAILERT & oMAR tOUBAR
This year, JACMUN is beyond excited to welcome Lek Chailert as one of our keynote speaker!
Renowned Thai conservationist and animal welfare advocate Lek Chailert is distinguished by her profound and unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of elephants, which has earned her international acclaim. As the founder of the Save the Elephant Foundation and the esteemed Elephant Nature Park, established in 2000, Chailert has made significant strides in advancing the cause of elephant conservation. The Elephant Nature Park, located in Chiang Mai, Thailand, was founded with the primary objective of rescuing and rehabilitating elephants that have endured severe mistreatment and exploitation, particularly those subjected to the harsh conditions of the logging and tourism industries. This sanctuary provides a compassionate and nurturing environment where these majestic animals are offered a chance to recover from their past traumas and live out their lives in dignity and peace.
Chailert’s commitment to animal welfare extends far beyond the sanctuary's borders. Her holistic approach encompasses not only the care and rehabilitation of elephants but also a broader mission of education and advocacy. Through various educational initiatives and advocacy campaigns, Chailert seeks to raise public awareness about the ethical treatment of elephants and the adverse impacts of exploitative tourism practices. She works diligently to foster a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by elephants and other wildlife, promoting more humane and sustainable practices within the tourism and conservation sectors.
Moreover, Chailert’s efforts include building strategic partnerships with other conservation organizations and governmental bodies, thereby amplifying the impact of her advocacy work. Her collaborations aim to address pressing issues such as the illegal ivory trade and human-wildlife conflict, contributing to the development of more effective conservation policies and practices. Through these multifaceted endeavors, Lek Chailert has not only provided a sanctuary for elephants but has also inspired a global movement towards more ethical and humane wildlife conservation. Her relentless dedication and visionary leadership have garnered her widespread respect and admiration within the international community of environmentalists and animal rights advocates, cementing her legacy as a leading force in the fight for animal welfare and conservation.
