Freedom of Speech in Media Today Exploring Freedom Regarding Media Censorship, Private Control, and Misinformation

The right to the freedom of speech is a fundamental and deeply rooted human right. Lately, the expansion of digital platforms and public discourse have become targeted by political influence and censorship. This Specialized Agency seeks to examine the growing concerns regarding misinformation, censorship, and the division of power within media institutions.

The first topic delegates discuss in committee covers themes on the limits on freedom of speech regarding mass media and the entertainment industry. Should lines be drawn on satire posts and misinformation? Should public figures be held accountable for offering their opinions and dealing with comedy? The second topic of debate explores whether media owners and administrative powers should have the authority to influence public speech. Delegates are encouraged to discuss the ownership of platforms and their regulation, especially regarding censorship and bias. How has free speech developed into a world of content moderation?

The To Speak or Not to Speak Specialized Agency aims to inspire delegates in taking action on free expression and communication across media and entertainment. Through meaningful debate and the evaluation of individuals such as public figures, platform owners, and regulatory bodies, public speech can be maintained and preserved.
