Letter from the
Secretary-General
Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisors, and Staff,
It is with great excitement and humility that I welcome you to the 17th iteration of JACMUN’s conference. It is a weekend that gathers like-minded engaged youth leaders and consists of thought-provoking debate and meaningful connection. Model United Nations is an experience that challenges the safe norms many of us are used to - it exposes us to many qualms, but it also brings out the best in us: unique and innovative problem solving, and the conquest of our fears and self doubts. For there to be change in the world, our young minds need to collaborate to create the unique and clever solutions that bring about results, and I sincerely hope that our conference can be a motivational launch pad for the people who have a message and a cause, as well as for those who’ve never had a place at the table. JACMUN takes a great sense of pride in offering varying committee experiences that range in difficulty for our experienced and inexperienced delegates alike.
This unique event would not be possible without the hard-working staff and dais members who have dedicated countless hours ensuring everything runs smoothly through their multifaceted talents and skills as well as their unwavering gravitas and persistent poise. Furthermore, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to JACMUN’s passionate and devoted Secretariat, alongside whom it has been an absolute privilege to serve.
On behalf of the Secretariat, I extend our most sincere gratitude to those who make it all possible - you the delegates. A heartfelt letter with much praise for everyone involved is certainly nice, but what makes planning everything worth it is seeing delegates having all the amazing experiences MUN has given me these last three years. During this school year, our most devoted team has built this conference, and over this fruitful weekend-to-be, we hope you make the most out of it. Whether this is your first MUN conference or your thirty-first, we encourage all delegates to allow themselves to be challenged; raise that placard, fight through the stress, make connections and, most importantly, enjoy!
It is an immense honour to be JACMUN’s 2027 Secretary-General and I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can. I truly hope JACMUN is everything you, the delegates, are hoping for, and I wish you the best of luck in this wonderful opportunity to foster fruitful and productive debate.

what is jacmun?
On April 3rd and 4th, John Abbott College will be hosting the 17th iteration of its long standing Model United Nations conference, JACMUN. We are delighted to welcome beginner and experienced delegates alike to enrich their MUN journey by overcoming the obstacles set on their paths in our committees. Our goal is to open possibilities for all participants to test their abilities and weaknesses in a wide range of crises, specialized agencies and general assemblies. JACMUN’s Secretariat and staff members are wishing the greatest experience for all delegates to come and we will ensure nothing less from a memorable weekend!
We would like to acknowledge that John Abbott College was built upon the unceded and traditional lands of the Kanien'kehá:ka and Algonquin nations. It is JACMUN's great honour to be able to host its conference on this territory. We recognize and deeply appreciate the historic and ongoing Indigenous connections and presence on these lands and waters. We commit to building a sincere relationship with Indigenous peoples based on respect, dignity, trust, and cooperation, in the process of advancing truth and reconciliation.
